When I Turn 100…

February 2, 2009

One of my patients turned 97 today. It was quite exciting for all of us. She didn’t much mind and said she doesn’t feel 97. Heck, she doesn’t look 97. We were discussing what she would do when she turned 100 and she said she doesn’t know. So I told her what I was going to do when I turn 100. I am going to get my first tatoo ever on my 100th birthday. On my buttcheek. I’m not sure what it’s going to be yet. Lori from work suggested I get “Kiss My” tatooed on my butt. I kind of like that one. But when I’m 100, who knows what I’ll like. All I know is, I’m going to live long enough to get that tatoo. I don’t care if I die while the ink dries, as long as I get that tatoo.

People who know me well might be suprised about this 100 year old goal. I am not your tatoo kind of girl. No tat’s no pericings. I’m not about altering the body. I don’t mind if other people do it, I’m just not for it. I don’t take contraceptives for that reason as well. I don’t think I need to be taking hormones to alter my body functions. But when I turn 100, my old wrinkly incontenent butt is getting it’s first ink.

So suprise! I’m getting a tatoo on my butt! When I turn 100. So that’s quite a few years from now especially if I stay 25 for too much longer. I haven’t decided if I’m ready to turn 26 next year or not though.

As for todays workout- For ten minutes I alternated face the wall squats with a 16kg (35lb) bell. Push ups, varying hand placements and using blocks for one side not the other and such. Halo’s with 12kg (26lb) bell.
Then for about 11 min I alternated 5 cleans, one press, and 5 high pulls with the 12kg then switched to the 8kg and did five of all for the rest of the 11 min. The last four minutes I spent trying not to puke. I haven’t been feelling great today, a bit stuffy but didn’t think it’d affect my workout since it’s not really anything serious. But I felt awful. On a good note, I was able to do four presses each arm with the 26lb bell on my last set with that bell. Well, the very last press on my left side was a push press, but hey, I couldn’t do that last week Friday.
Then after all that, we did swings. I alternated 20 swings with the 16kg with a bunch of hand to hand swings with the 8kg. Josh was using the 12kg.

How long you live is mostly up to you and how you choose to take care of yourself. Genetics don’t kill you, they only make you stronger ;). Got to say that because I have a heart disease that runs in my family. My dad was 45 when he had his heart transplant. I don’t waste my time wondering if the disease is going to catch up to me and kill me, I just get on with my life. I’m going to do my best to make it to 100 and if some jerk or drunk driver kills me someday, I want them to get my full name tatooed on their butt. Sounds fair to me.

Haha that’s an awesome goal for when you turn 100!
Good progress on the kettlebelling too! I was just reading the next chapter of Enter the Kettlebell and realised I’ve been doing my cleans completely wrong!!! I’ll be practically starting from scratch again on Thursday! Bugger, but hey at least I discovered it now and now 6 months down the track.
I hear you on the heart side of things. My family has pretty high blood pressure, what can you do other than eat healthy, exercise plenty and live life!

That is the perfect age for a tatoo. I am not into the tatoo thing at all either, but I guess when your 100 you don’t have to worry about what it will look like when you get old and you won’t be showing the booty off to much either 🙂

yes, why wait. Enjoy what life brings you now. I think you, Luke and I should get a small KB tattooed someplace special.
You are doing great in all you your doing. I went to look at KB and I thought the 25 pound once was real heavy, either that or I am a tittle weakling. I think Luke said I should get at 35 pounder 🙂 Hope to get one in the next week. I want to make sure I get the right one and size since they are quite expensive, at least for me. I really want one though.
Hope all is going well with your revised schedule.

Hey Rob, best to start with a kettlebell that you’re comfortable with! You’re better off training for a month or two with a bell that’s on the light side, and training for a week and ruining your shoulders and hips!

Hi Luke, sucks that those cleans were off a bit. Were you flipping it over your wrist? If you were, changing to the rolling around the wrist instead only takes a tiny bit of practice and you’ll have it down before the end of the week.

Run4- perfect age is right. But I will be showing it off ;). I’ll run down the halls in the nursing home with my butt bare! hehe, that’d be a sight!

Judie, what kind of tatoo are you wanting? Anything specific?

Rob, I’m definitely waiting! I’m not a tatoo kind of girl, but at 100, then I’ll get one (of course assuming I make it that far and I’ll keep assuming that right up to the moment of my death).
Also Rob, my husband started with swinging the 26. He does the get ups with the 18lb. I’m using the 35lb for swings, 26 for snatches and cleans, and alternating 18 and 26 for get ups and presses.

To find one cheap, try to find a used sporting store and then of course ask for a discount on the used price. They usually can give you one. If they say no then just say what I say: the guys at the one across town usually give me the employee discount, dont suppose you can do the same?
I usually get an extra ten percent off with that little white lie (though it’s really not a lie because then when I go to the other one I say the same thing then they give me the discount, too).

Great outlook, fantastic goal. We are never to old to have goals. They add many wonderful years to all of our lives. I also want to tell you I think it is great that you see the magic in aging. I just survived a minor stroke and finding the path away from smoke and toward health is a hard path but a journey worth taking

Woops, missed your comment when you made it Michelle!
I was initially flipping it, but I stopped that a week or two ago. I just wasn’t aware that you are supposed to keep the elbow glued to your side, and that the bell should sit pretty much in the V of your arm. Or that you’re supposed to “swing” it up there, I’ve been yanking away at it 😀

Dave, thanks for the comment! I hope your recovery goes well. Have you had to make any adjustments in your way of doing things since your stroke or are you pretty much back to “normal”?

No prob Luke. I have bruises from accidental flippage when doing the snatches. They’re tough for me to get down and I’m doing better with my left rather than my right.
