New Routine Starts Monday

December 6, 2008

I decided to take the weekend off from lifting. I was supposed to today and tomorrow and I’m skipping out. I think it’s better to take two days off and continue to love doing what I’m doing than to try to force it and end up failing again. I started in the beginning of October after a long long time off lifting (and a gaining back of nearly all the weight I’d lost).

My daughter and I did paint her room today so I did get something done :). I have to work tomorrow (and I work both days next weekend 😦 )

Plan for next week is Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday.
My routine is the Hypertropy 1 program from New Rules of Lifting. The first three of each program is superset groups.
Workout A:
Dumbbell inlince bench press with cable seated row
dumbbell shoulder press with lat pulldown
barbell close grip bench press with high pull
and swiss ball crunch with nothing paired with it.
Workout B:
Squat with deadlift shrug
Bulgarian split squat with step up
and reverse crunch all by itself.

Sets and reps vary throughout the program depending on which workout it is.

In workout B I am replacing the split squat with a basic lunge or with a lunge with the back leg raised. I am all split squatted out. I thought I had a routine without them in it, but ALL of them have so far. And I just can’t do them one more routine in a row. I’ll be boxing on my leg days and might do a short belly dancing video (20 min) on my upper body days.

Now this routine is going to be cut short since I have an off week first week in January and then start with the good old kettlebell training. I’ll be starting with routines from “Enter the Kettlebell” by Pavel for my first five weeks paired with jogging when we get our new treadmill. The Kettlebell routines in his book seem to be something that will take 25-45 min depending on which one for that day.

I have been very interested in kettlebells. My gym is supposedly having a kettlebell class but I have yet to see it being offered. I look forward to reading about your experiences.
